Endometrial aspiration biopsy

Endometrial aspiration biopsy is a minimally invasive procedure involving the collection of a fragment of the uterine mucosa for histopathological examination.

Endometrial aspiration involves inserting a thin, sterile plastic tube into the uterine cavity through the cervical canal, and then extracting sections of the uterine lining by applying negative pressure.

Endometrial aspiration biopsy is a diagnostic test of a woman's reproductive tract. It is used to diagnose diseases of the uterine mucosa (endometrium) by taking a fragment of the membrane and subjecting it to histopathological evaluation. It enables the early detection of precancerous conditions and cancers, which is why it is important for the effectiveness of treatment.

Indications for endometrial aspiration biopsy

The indication for endometrial aspiration biopsy is primarily the occurrence of abnormal bleeding from the female reproductive tract, after a previous ultrasound examination of the uterine cavity, which showed disturbing features in the layer of its mucous membrane.

Endometrial aspiration biopsy - Examination

Performing this test is safe, easy and effective, and it is not associated with high costs. It consists in inserting a plastic tube called Pipelle through the cervical canal into the endometrial cavity, where the created negative pressure enables the collection of material for histopathological examination.
The examination lasts about a few dozen seconds and is performed by a gynecologist on an outpatient basis.

Endometrial aspiration biopsy is effective in diagnosis

Endometrial aspiration biopsy is a test that aims to detect any abnormalities in the lining of the uterus, its growths and changes. It is also used to verify the obtained ultrasound image.

It also fulfills its role in the case of women at risk of cancer and is used in diagnosing

  • menstrual cycle disorders,
  • hormonal fluctuations,
  • infertility,
